Two separate truck accidents on Interstate 57 resulted in the death of three people and injured seven more.
Illinois State Police said that one accident occurred when a semi-truck driver was heading south down the roadway when he failed to notice that traffic was slowing. He then rear-ended a pickup truck and sent it into the median.
He then struck a minivan and another semitrailer before going off the side of the road. After he ran off the road, the truck fell to its side and caught fire. A 67-year-old passenger in the minivan was later pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital. The other accident also occurred on I-57 earlier in the day when two semi-trucks collided.
Truck accidents can cause serious injury to all involved, our thoughts are with the friends and family of the victims.
