An Illinois mother has filed a lawsuit and is seeking class action status over a the recall of millions of containers of Similac baby formula after beetle larvae was found and reported by two people.
In the lawsuit, the mother states that the maker of the baby formula, Abbott Laboratories Inc., made her child and many other children sick by not “exerting quality control measures to ensure that the formulas were safe for consumption.”
Insects and larvae were found at the plant in Sturgis, Ill. and the company recalled the products on Sept. 22. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has said that the insects may give the babies stomach aches, but that no long term damage would occur.
