Southern Illinois nursing home to surrender license

A nursing home in Southern Illinois will be closing its doors after the state decided that they have failed to comply with safety regulations.

The Orchard Court nursing home houses 15 residents and will now have to surrender its license in 90 days. The agreement also states that the nursing home will pay a $12,000 fine. The reasons for the closure are written in a 50 page report by the Department of Public Health and the violations include failing to protect residents to violent attacks.

Many of the incidents revolve around an 18-year-old resident that suffered from mental retardation and beat the other residents. Officials have said that the nursing staff should have made an appropriate care plan for each resident and they failed to do that with the 18-year-old.

Department officials have also said that license revocation is not a common occurrence, but the violations were severe enough to prohibit the nursing home from operating in the future.

Nursing home abuse affects those who may be too vulnerable to speak up for themselves. If your family member has been the victim of elder abuse, contact the Danville nursing home abuse lawyers of Spiros Law, P.C., by calling (217) 443-4343.
