HP recalls faulty laptop batteries that may catch fire

Thousands of potentially faulty laptop computer batteries are being recalled by Hewlett-Packard (HP) due to burn injury risks. The batteries are liable to overheat and catch fire, a report of cpsc.gov stated on June 23.

According to reports, the HP lithium-ion battery packs used for Compaq and HP portable computers may overheat. Consumers who own the affected batteries are at high risk of sustaining burn injuries if the batteries catch fire. There were approximately 41,000 defective batteries used in the six HP laptop models. The Palo Alto-based company and federal authorities are unaware of any injuries involving the defective batteries. However, there were seven complaints of overheating incidents. Consumers were advised to immediately return the battery packs of their notebook computers to HP to receive a new battery for free.
