More than thirty people were sent to the hospital and one individual was killed after a Megabus collided with a bridge pillar on an interstate near Litchfield on Thursday.
It is unknown at this time what caused the bus to crash into the support beam, but passengers stated that there was a loud ‘boom’ before the collision that sounded as if one of the bus’s tires suffered a blowout.
Officials cannot confirm whether the tire blew out before the collision or not as they are still investigating the incident. The National Traffic Highway Safety Administration will be in contact with local investigators in order to determine if there were “safety implications” that will require the agency’s action.
As of Friday morning, over 20 of the passengers have already been treated and released from the hospital, and our thoughts are with all victims and their families during this time.
