The Naperville-based trucking firm involved in a fatal crash last January was ordered to stop its operations by federal regulators after violating safety measures, the Chicago Tribune reported on April 2.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) learned that trucking firm DND International committed several repeated lapses in connection to the fatal truck accident that occurred on January 27. Tollway employee Vincent Petrella reportedly died and state trooper Douglas Balder was critically injured after being hit by a DND truck driven by Renato Velasquez. Velasquez, who was later charged, reportedly faked his logbook entries to get more hours on the road.
Federal safety regulations however limit truck drivers’ shifts to only 14 hours, during which a driver is only allowed to drive for 11 hours and are required to have 10 hours of break between shifts.
