The heavy winds and freezing temperatures contributed to causing a pair of accidents along Illinois State Highway 57, just south of Manteno. The accidents occurred early on the morning of February 10.
The gusts combined with snow flurries and icy road conditions to cause a pickup truck to drive off the road and into a ditch, where police say a second car crashed into it. Little else is known about the accident, including the extent of the damage and the condition of the drivers and any passengers.
According to weather reports from the Greater Kankakee Airport, visibility was reduced to less than a mile for much of the morning, which police say probably contributed to the accident.
